BEEF COCONUT FRY | KERALA STYLE

INGREDIENTS:

To cook Beef:
Beef - 500g (cleaned, chopped into small pieces)
Chilly powder - 1.5 tsp (Could use Kashmiri chilly powder 2 tsp as well)
Coriander powder - 2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 3/4 tsp
Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
Ginger Garlic paste - 1 tbsp
Curry leaves - 2 flakes
Salt - 1 tsp
Coconut oil - 2-3 tbsp
Water - 1/2 cup

For frying:
Coconut oil - 3-4 tbsp
Mustard seeds - a pinch
Curry leaves - 1 flake
coconut slices - 1 cup
Green chilly - 2 sliced
Onion - 2 medium sized finely chopped
Garlic - 3-4 pods finely chopped
Soya sauce - 2 tsp (this adds color to the beef fry)
Pepper powder - 1.5 tsp
Fennel powder - 1/2 - 3/4  tsp
Vinegar - 1 tsp
Garam masala powder - 1/4 tsp (optional)
Salt - 1 tsp

METHOD:
Add all the ingredients 'To cook beef' in a pressure cooker, kneed well with hand so that the masala stick to the beef. Add 1/2 cup of water to it and pressure cook. For Pakistani beef, I pressure cooked for 7-8 whistles. For other kind of beef such as Lulu Bobby Veal frozen, 4-5 whistles are enough.

For frying, heat coconut oil in a non-stick pan, crackle mustard seeds, followed by curry leaves, and coconut pieces. Fry until the coconut slices starts to turn golden brown. Add green chilly, onion, garlic, and salt and saute until onion is translucent.  Now add the cooked beef into it and cook in medium flame for 5 minutes. Then, add soya sauce, pepper powder, fennel powder, garam masala and mix well. Now add vinegar and do not mix for 2-3 mins. Pour 1 tbsp coconut oil more if needed and fry in sim flame for 30 mins or more until it turns black.
