BLACK URAD DHAL KANJI || ULUNDU KANJI


Ingredients
Black broken urad dhal - 1/2 cup
Rice - 1/2 cup (I used idly rice)
Garlic - 15 small pods
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Fenugreek seeds - 2 pinches
Cumin seeds - 2 pinches
Salt to taste  (~ 3/4 tsp)
Water - 4 cups



Method
Heat an empty pan and fry fenugreek and cumin seeds, grind to make powder and keep aside. Add the grated coconut to 1 cup warm water and keep aside. Add rice and dhal together and clean well. Add the garlic pods, grinded powder into it and mix well. Put this into a cooker with 4 cups of water and pressure cook for 5 whistles in medium flame (4 in electric). Then open the lid; add salt, coconut water mixture, 1 cup warm water if desired and mix well. Close with lid and cook for 5 minutes in sim (2 in electric). Then off the stove; open the lid, mix well and leave the cooker in the stove itself with closed lid  for 10 more minutes. Serve hot with dry coconut chamandi.
