SHAHI TUKDA || DOUBLE KA MEETHA || INDIAN BREAD PUDDING


Shahi Tukda / Double ka meetha is a bread pudding dessert of fried bread slices soaked in hot milk with spices, including saffron and cardamom.  It is a famous Hyderabadi /Telangana dessert. 

INGREDIENTS
Bread loafs - 2 no
Milk - 3/4 cup
Condensed milk - 2 tbsp
Saffron - 6 strands
Almonds - 5 no sliced
Cardamom - 2 nos crushed
Pistachio flakes - few
Sugar  - 1 tbsp optional (add if more sweetness is desired)




METHOD
1. Remove the edges from bread loafs (cut in desired shape)
2. Heat a pan, lightly butter both sides of the bread pieces and toast till slight brown and keep it aside
3. Boil milk, condensed milk, sugar, and saffron flakes in a pan, stir continuously and boil for 4-5 minutes until the milk reduces to half
4. Add in the half of the nuts, powdered cardamom, and remove the milk mixture from stove
5. Dip each piece of bread in the milk mixture and arrange it on a serving dish
6. Pour the rest of the milk mixture and decorate with remaining nuts
7. Serve it warm
